Pension mode and investing in LICs

In pension mode I pay no capital gains and I am planning to increasingly sell off my 25 stocks in my SMSF, worth about $1m, and invest in LICs, like MLT, AFI and Argo, to reduces my stress levels and stabilise my returns. Any comments?

ETF/LICs vs Direct Shares

When setting up a SMSF (in accumulation phase), is it better to have ETF/LIC style investments, or just direct shares, or a good combination of both? (Assume approx $500k under management).

I can see the attraction of ETF/LIC for “instant diversification” and ease of investment, but most of the discussion seems to be on selecting a portfolio of growth or income direct shares. Is there a good combination of ETF/LIC vs shares?

Interested in views on the “right” combination.

Changing to a corporate trustee

My wife and I are sole trustees of our SMSF. We are retired with about $1,150,000 in the fund, about $100,000 cash and balance in LICs with small amount in some bank shares. I am interested in a corporate trustee. How does one go about this? We are spending a considerable amount of time overseas as our youngest is continuing her studies in Canada. She is finishing medicine this year but will be doing another 5 years of surgical residency. Would a corporate trustee help with residency requirements?
