Telstra buyback a no brainer

Paul, I am in pension phase in my SMSF.

I do not hold Telstra Shares direct except those held in ARG and AFI of which I have substantial holdings. As you say a ”no brainer” but I only have until COB tomorrow to do something.

It appears I would be eligible if I bought some Telstra by COB tomorrow. Could probably find 30k if a quick profit involved. Are my assumptions correct?

A: Yes.

Two things to be careful of:

a) I doubt you will get accepted for $30K – the “guarantee” is only for 935 shares and the buyback is less than 1.7% of Telstra’s share capital;

b) Be careful about the 45 day rule (I doubt you will qualify in this case). The small shareholder exemption runs out when imputation credits exceed $5,000.
