Transition to Retirement

I heard you say on 2gb radio that it makes sense (99% of the time) to take a “Transition to Retirement” as soon as you get to preservation age.

Listening to a guest (called “Mr X”) on Scott Pape’s show recently, the guest stated that at “60 it’s a no brainer, but not between the age of 55-59.”

Do you know why he might have said this?

A: I don't know who Scott Pape is - so it's hard to comment.

Between 55 and 59,  there may be a little bit of tax to pay on the taxable component of the pension.

You will also incur a cost in arranging an actuarial certificate.

For 98% of persons in this age group, with a reasonable balance in super, a TTR is a "no brainer".
