CSHC eligibility criteria

My wife and myself have a CSHC which we have had for a number of years and have not had to reapply for it on an annual basis. We both salary sacrifice which brings us under the 80k limit. I am 72 and my wife 69 years of age. Reading your article it is not clear on whether to add back salary sacrifice or to base our eligibility on our combined taxable incomes as per the tax returns. Also I understand that we must move from the accumulation phase of SMSF to allocated pension phase if we are to avoid having the pension included in the future CSHC eligibility income test.

JB HI FI

Hi Peter,

Your opinion on J B Hi FI and crown – I hold both. Also at what price would you buy more bank stocks? I own them all and have profit in all of them.

May sell off

Hi Paul,

Charlie Aitken in the latest Switzer Super Report advises us before May to sell off high PE stocks such as Ramsay RHC, Orora ORA, CSL, which are in your investment portfolios, plus a few others that I had regarded as pretty safe such as SEK, NVT, GEM, SRX and others. What are you planning to do with your growth and income portfolios? Will you be making any changes? I am finding it pretty hard this year to know what to do, so I value your advice. In my recent experience, Charlie is not always right – but who is? We need a cross section of opinion in the Super Report. So I thought I would ask you.

Personal vs corporate trustee

We would like to replace the personal trustees of our SMSF with a corporate trustee. However we are told that all the SF assets would have to reflect this change in ownership. Managed funds and shares would have to be sold/redeemed and repurchased and term deposits terminated early. Is this correct ?

If so, this would result in considerable costs from fees and penalties. Are there any measures available to mitigate the situation ? Is there allowance for a delay in the change of the ownership name of the assets when the trustee is changed?

Thank you for your assistance,

CL.

Leighton Holdings for income portfolio

Hi Paul,

What is your current opinion of Leighton Holdings in your Income Portfolio? I have held it for some time but I notice it is on the short selling list and Rudi is giving it a downgrade. Peter appeared ambivalent last night.

I am in for the long haul, but am not sure what to do. Your advice would be much appreciated.

Regards,

John Patterson – Adelaide.

Monadelphous

Monadelphous was a stellar stock for so long but now in the doldrums. What do you think of its potential long term in a SMSF?

Regards,

Phillip.
