Buying US priced ETFs

I have opened an account to buy some US priced ETFs not available on the ASX but with the Australian dollar, at say, 70c have I got a problem?

Or am I correct that if the spread doesn’t change, there will be no downside?

However if the spread increases (Aussie dollar goes down against the US dollar) after I buy, does my paper profit deteriorate – and if the spread decreases my position improves – or is it the other way around?

Magellan or banks?

For a personal investment outside of my super fund, is it more tax effective to invest in a fund such as Magellan global rather than interest bearing banks?

Buying dips

It seems to me that instead of building a portfolio and staying long, you have to be buying and selling all the time – otherwise there is ultimately no cash to buy these dips you keep referring to.

If you keep buying dips, eventually there is nothing left unless you are selling things from time to time to create cash. What is your response to this, remembering I am trying to build a portfolio and stay long. It seems to me your theory requires one to be a trader or have a money tree at the bottom of the garden.

Is now a good time to invest?

Is now a good time to invest $50,000 into the market using the growth portfolio as a strict base? If so, should I spread my buying over a number of days/weeks, or drop it all in simultaneously?

A number of stocks in the portfolio seem reasonably priced after the latest market pullback, however a few seem to be fully priced.
