Stocks to watch on the Australian stock exchange on Tuesday:

BPT – BEACH ENERGY LTD – down one cent at $1.29

ORG – ORIGIN ENERGY LTD – up one cent at $13.17

Gas has begun flowing at the Middleton Brownlow wet gas project in South Australia’s Cooper Basin.

SPT – SPOTLESS GROUP LTD – up four cents, or 1.7 per cent, at $2.37

Industrial services company Spotless Group has requested its private equity suitor increase its takeover bid to $743 million.

MIR – MIRRABOOKA INVESTMENTS LTD – up one cent at $1.74

Investment firm Mirrabooka expects share market volatility to continue for the next six months before a return to some normality later in 2012.

HVN – HARVEY NORMAN LTD – up one cent, or 0.5 per cent, at $1.86

MYR – MYER HOLDINGS LTD – up one cent, or 0.5 per cent, at $1.97

BBG – BILLABONG INTERNATIONAL LTD – up 1.5 cents, or 0.8 per cent, at $1.82

DJS – DAVID JONES LTD – down seven cents, or 2.9 per cent, at $2.37

WOW – WOOLWORTHS LTD – steady at $25.33

It could be hard slog ahead for Australian retailers, as official data showed a slowing in consumer spending for November.
