Retail trade falls in June

Retail spending fell 0.1 per cent in June, according to official figures.

Retail trade fell in the month, to a seasonally adjusted $20.540 billion, compared to a downwardly revised $20.567 billion in May, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said on Wednesday.

Over the June quarter, retail sales rose by 0.3 per cent to $60.043 billion in seasonally adjusted volume terms.

Economists’ forecasts had centred on a 0.4 per cent rise in retail sales in the month and a 0.4 per cent increase in the quarter.
