Aust shares open lower

The Australian share market is lower, following falls in overseas markets and commodity prices on New Year’s Eve.

At 1015 AEDT on Friday, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was down 19.3 points, or 0.36 per cent, at 5,391.7, while the broader All Ordinaries index was down 18.1 points, or 0.34 per cent, at 5,370.5.

On the ASX 24, the March share price index futures contract was down 28 points at 5,355 with 1,966 contracts traded.
