How to manage the Shell/Woodside divestment

Firstly I need to tell you that your Super Report is first class, much better than most that is offered nowadays.

Question: how should a potential investor position herself/himself with regards to the Shell’s $ 7.4 bio divestment from Woodside? Should you Woodside and if so, when?

Thank you.

A: Thanks for the comment about the Switzer Super Report.

I don’t really know how you position yourself for the expected divesture by Shell of its shares in Woodside. It is all well founded rumour, of course – so on the one hand, you could make a case that the “news is in the market”. Also, as it is only conjecture – there must be some probability that the sale doesn’t go ahead in the short term – so if the market has eased in price in expectation, it could be argued that it is a buying opportunity.

On the other hand, if the market hasn’t fully priced in the news and the sale goes ahead, then maybe there is still an opportunity to sell.

That said, however, it is not new supply – it is just existing supply changing hands. Sometimes, supply creates or unlocks its own demand.

Bottom line – I am not taking any action at the moment – I feel it is too hard to make a call.

Regards.
